What is the endocannabinoid system?
The endocannabinoid system (ECS) is a biological system in the body that helps regulate and balance key bodily functions like “pain, movement, emotion, digestion, skin and even bone health” (Ethan Russo, “Introduction to the Endocannabinoid System”). It wasn’t identified until the late ‘80s and is still not fully understood. The ECS is mainly made up of CB1 and CB2 receptors, enzymes, and endogenous cannabinoids. Endogenous means produced or synthesized within; thus, these are made inside the human body.
What are cannabinoids?
Cannabinoids are chemical compounds that help our endocannabinoid system (ECS) function properly. So far scientists have identified over 120 different cannabinoids. Endocannabinoids are made inside the human and animal bodies. Phytocannabinoids (Phyto=plant) occur in the Cannabis sativa plant and a few other plants. There are also cannabinoids of synthetic origin or ones made in the lab, like Epidiolex.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol (CBD) is a cannabinoid and is becoming widely understood for its many benefits more and more every day. It won’t get you “high” and it won’t make you tired. It will enter your ECS which will help balance nearly all your key bodily functions, allowing your internal systems to perform their duties efficiently.
What is CBG?
Cannabigerol (CBG) is another important nonintoxicating cannabinoid that supports the ECS. CBG has similar properties as CBD, as well as other exciting benefits. When used together, cannabinoids create a synergistic partnership, which enhances their effects.
What is the difference between Hemp and cannabis?
By legal definition, “hemp” contains less than 0.3% THC and is one type of the Cannabis sativa plant. The Cannabis plant has 3 main cultivars. One is used mainly for its fiber. Another is grown for seed, which can be eaten entirely raw or extracted into hemp oil, both of which contain 0.0% THC and no other cannabinoids. The third cultivar is used for medicinal or recreational purposes and is characterized by extensive branching to maximize the number of flower sites, commonly referred to as “buds”. Of this third cultivar, there are three chemovars. Type 1 has high THC and low CBD. Type 2 has similar levels of THC and CBD. And Type 3 has high CBD and low THC. – This third chemovar is known as “hemp” and is what My X Wellness uses in its products.
What is the difference between Full Spectrum and Broad Spectrum Oil?
Full Spectrum means all cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, lipids, and waxes found in the plant, including THC (if any), are still in the oil. Full Spectrum oil can have the THC remediated (removed) down to the legal limit of .3% THC or less, which is what My X Wellness uses. Broad Spectrum means all the cannabinoids and other compounds are in the oil with 100% of the THC remediated.
What is Isolate?
Isolates have had ALL cannabinoids, terpenes, flavonoids, lipids, and waxes found in the plant remediated (removed), leaving a 100% purity of only the one cannabinoid being extracted.
